Interim Pastor
Rev. Gaye Brown answered the call to
guide and lead OPC in October 2011. Rev. Brown possesses an impressive resume of experience as a solo pastor, four interim pastorates, and as a DCE. Two of her recent Calls have been as interim pastor for the Commerce Presbyterian Church & the First Presbyterian Church of Milledgeville. She holds two Masters Degrees, one in Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary, and a Masters of Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University.  Her studies include Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Texas, and a BS degree from S. Illinois University. She also studied music at Montclair State College in NJ. She taught elementary school for nine years. Later Gaye became a full-time mom, and then went to seminary & launched her divinity career. She is married to George Brown of Augusta, who served in the Air Force for 10 years & is now a computer analyst with the Morris Publishing Company. George & Gaye have two grown daughters. Susan is married to Sean Effel and is an Assistant Attorney General for MA in health care. Kathryn (Kat) is married to Mike Eason and teaches fashion design & marketing at UWV. She is also the mom of the Brown’s 15 month old granddaughter, Josephine Mabel!
 
Director of Christian Education
Rev. Sue Jacobson came to Oconee Presbyterian Church in 2002. She felt God was calling her to be in this unique place that was growing, building tradition and filled with unbounded love.In 2008, she earned her Master of Divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary with an emphasis in practical theology.You know what Sue loves about this place?! She loves worshiping, learning and working side by side with people of all ages. Here at OPC, children, youth and adults are rejoicing in God’s grace, seeking God’s will and striving to be the church God calls them to be.

 

Director of Music
Dr. Skip Taylor has been the Music Director for Oconee Presbyterian Church since 2003. Skip has been involved with church choirs for over fourteen years in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. After completing his M.M. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Skip accepted a faculty position at the University of Georgia and he and his wife Jenny and children Meg and Cary moved to Oconee County in 2001. Since joining the music education faculty in 2001 at the University of Georgia (UGA), Dr. Taylor has been active as an adjudicator, workshop clinician, and conductor throughout the southeast. Dr. Taylor is the director of the Summer Camps at UGA, Associate Director of the String Project, and also conducts the University Philharmonic Orchestra.   As you can see, music is his passion! Skip says “I enjoy the people of OPC. Jenny and the kids found this church and told me I was going to attend!  I enjoy, appreciate, and value the love and care this church has for me and my family. I am having fun continuing to work with the choir and the growth of the music program at OPC.” 

Accompanist
Sun Heiy Min
is an undergraduate student at the University of Georgia majoring in Piano Performance and Music Education. She began her piano studies at the age of six from her mother. In the summer of 2007, she performed in Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall as the Georgia state winner of the International Hymn Festival Competition. In 2008, Sun Heiy received the Atlanta Music Club Undergraduate Piano Scholarship, and in 2009, she performed as a soloist with the UGA Symphony Orchestra as a winner of the UGA Orchestra Concerto Competition. Sun Heiy is a recipient of a 2009 Atlanta Steinway Society Misha Dichter piano scholarship, and the 2010 UGA Franz Liszt Award. Sun Heiy performed at the New York Steinway Hall during her participation at the 2010 Piano Summer at New Paltz Festival. In addition to her piano accomplishments, Sun Heiy enjoys singing and has been actively involved in choirs since middle school. Sun Heiy hopes to accompany as well as direct the choir in the future.
